Working with Rare Bird Coffee Roasters in Northern Virginia for refreshed brand photography was a DREAM COME TRUE!
It’s such an iconic location in Falls Church City, with some of the yummiest coffee around! It’s always packed with happy people, drenched in sunlight, particularly in their newly expanded second room!
The owner did not want to make the session about him, as he doesn’t want to create a personal brand. He wanted the love of coffee to be at the center of every images, and to celebrate the space, the staff, and of course, the coffee, without making him the center of attention.
You KNOW I will always give permission to keep your face out of your brand, and so I was happy to oblige! Not every brand needs to be ultra-personal!!
Our goal with these images was to capture 3 main storylines (and one unexpected bonus):
1. Bright and cozy ambiance
2. Coffee roasting excellence
3. Cupping classes
4. BONUS: in-house bakery
We wanted to capture what regulars know well: that Rare Bird strives always for excellence in every drink, every croissant, and every nook of the space. And…I think we nailed it!
We shot together for about 6 hours and captured a holistic, well-rounded image of the Rare Bird experience. Take a look – how did we do?
Coffee Shop Ambiance
GOAL: capture the cozy environment, the delicious drinks, and photos of happy patrons in the space both working and conversing.
It was important to management that we capture folks at work in the space, as Rare Bird Coffee Roasters is a very popular coffee shop for people to work from!
Capturing these images ensures that folks looking for a spot to work know they are welcomed and invited to work from the coffee shop!
Coffee Roasting
GOAL: capture the attention to detail and care involved in the coffee roasting process and give patrons a peek behind the scenes.

Cupping Classes
GOAL: capture folks enjoying a cupping class, where you can learn more about the coffee served at Rare Bird
In-House Bakery
GOAL: capture a behind the scenes look of the bakery at Rare Bird, celebrating the move to all in-house baked goods
From seeing the baked goods crafted with care to displayed in the shop, we made sure to capture both sides of the delicious experience!
Holiday Gift Boxes
GOAL: capture images of the curated holiday gift boxes available for purchase at Rare Bird Coffee Roasters in time for holiday promotions.
